The holidays are upon us, the weather is getting colder, the days are getting shorter and soon enough the streets will be lined with lights and garland. There are some great events to enjoy around the area now that the holiday season is in full swing. The whole family can enjoy a night of fun and inexpensive quality time. So bundle up, pack up the kids and get ready to see some beautiful lights, sing some carols and enjoy the holiday spirit.
The City of Lakewood will be continuing their longtime tradition with their lighting ceremony on Friday, December 6th at 5:30pm where Mayor Bob Murphy and Shadows of Mountain Choir from Green Mountain High School will light up the night.The night will include free museum tours and hay rides and even Santa could make an appearance!
If you haven’t gotten enough holiday spirit, head on over to City Hall in Westminster on Saturday, December 7th at 5:30pm for their lighting ceremony festivities. There you will find holiday music, hay rides and refreshments. Don’t forget that everything will be held outdoors so make sure to bundle up if necessary!
This year as part of Denver’s Winter in the City program, Downtown Denver will be decorated and lit up! On the night of November 29th at 6:00pm Downtown Denver will twinkle with more than 550,000 LED lights

throughout 16th Street Mall, California St between 14th and 17th and Curtis St. between 14th and 16th. Other streets will have the trees decorated to look like a winter wonderland. On November 29th beginning at 6pm there will be events at Denver Union Station which will include a choir, treats, specials guest and much more. At the City and County Building 9News will Light the Lights as they have for many years which completely transforms not only the building but the whole atmosphere. The countdown to the lighting of the city and county building is said to begin at around 6:45 pm on the same night.
Last but not least, you can not leave out the most popular celebration of them all, the Parade of Lights in Downtown Denver. This year will be the 39th annual and it is sure to amaze and be just as spectacular as in years past. The parade of lights is a free event, and because it is I recommend that you arrive early to get the perfect spot! Make sure to bundle up and pack some hot cocoa.
So whether you live in Denver or the surrounding areas make sure to get out and enjoy all the free events that your city has to offer. People are starting to decorate their homes with lights as well, you can always drive around and enjoy a few of your neighbors decorations. Don’t forget this is a time for giving and many local shelters are in need of a helping hand. Take a day to donate your time and serve at your local shelter.
